Effective degradation of compost components
Description
Homestyle Compost Tablets are a biological product containing carefully selected natural micro-organisms that readily adapt to the compost environment. Homestyle Compost contains a blend of mesophilic and thermophilic micro-organisms. The mesophiles initiate the degradation process when the temperature in the compost is in the range of 20–45oC. They are efficient producers of the enzymes necessary to transform the cellulosic and hemi-cellulosic material present from plant and vegetable matter. Additionally they produce enzymes to degrade any fats and proteins contributed by kitchen scraps.
The thermophiles are activated once the temperature in the compost reaches 40-45oC. These micro-organisms continue the degradation process and are largely responsible for the degradation of the more complex lignins and carbohydrates arising mainly from plant and vegetable materials. The thermophilic micro-organisms continue to function until temperatures reach in excess of 65oC.
Homestyle Compost Tablets contain a small supply of enzymes that initiate the degradation process. Once the bacteria multiply in sufficient numbers they will then produce sufficient quantities of their own enzymes. There are nutrients included in the package to stimulate initial microbial activity.
A compost heap traditionally relies upon the presence of micro-organisms in the materials added to the heap to carry out the degradation process and also colonization by organisms present in the surrounding environment. This can lead to the compost heap getting off to a very slow start. By using Homestyle Compost Tablets this initial phase can be accelerated and good quality compost can be available within a matter of weeks.
Applications
As well as being a very useful additive at the beginning of the composting process, Homestyle Compost Tablets can also be added at more advanced stages of the composting process. Homestyle Compost can be added to problem compost heaps where the indigenous population of microbes has been wiped out due to high temperatures or adverse conditions. In addition, Homestyle Compost, by the nature of its activities, prevents the development of anaerobic conditions.
Homestyle Compost Tablets are ideal for garden composts to accelerate the degradation of vegetable waste. They are also suitable in the breakdown of most land waste.
