Scotmas: Disinfectant and Sanitisation
Hysan, the complete sterilant

Designed for demanding applications in the food and allied industries, Hysan represents the strongest disinfectants and sanitisers currently available.
Hysan products are used in a variety of applications, from disinfection, through to combined detergent-sanitisers. Hysan is a ready to use product, elimininating the need to manually mix chemicals.
Hysan is safe to use and is non-toxic as well as low in sensitivity and irritation.
Hysan should not be confused with presently available germicides or disinfectants that are not effective against spores or very virulent strains of bacteria - Hysan is a complete disinfectant and steriliser.

Laboratory Tests Show Hysan Kills All Pathogens - A new generation of hygiene

This powerful Broad Spectrum Disinfectant combines the sanitising powers of stabilised chlorine dioxide with a Germicidal di Alkyl quaternary ammonium. The effect is synergistic. LD 50 tests show it to be several times less toxic than similar germicides. Hysan is also a strong oxidiser and eliminates odours by chemical oxidation.

In only 30 seconds, Hysan will kill organisms such as Pseudomonas, Clostridium botulinum & Hong Kong flu virus, as well as more common organisms such as E. coli 0157, Staphylococcus Streptococcus & Salmonella. The most resistant strains of fungi such as Trycophyton interdigitalae, are completely destroyed in 60 seconds. The most difficult organisms of all the spore formers, such as Bacillus subtilis are destroyed in 10 minutes, this is 60 times faster than most chemical sterilants; yet the compound is safe enough, that is has no restrictions in the food industry.

Cleaning and Disinfection
Cleaning and disinfection are two separate functions which are often confused.

Cleaning is the removal of the soiling, it may make the surface appear “clean” but it is seldom designed to remove the surface biofilms or destroy pathogens. Cleaning must be combined with or followed by a thorough disinfection. Detergents may remove soiling but will seldom destroy the pathogens. Bacteria suspended in the dirty water are often simply moved from one spot to another where it is left to repopulate and form new biofilm attachments.

Disinfection is the destruction of pathogens, bacteria, spores, virus, protozoa and fungi. Many of these organisms will live within the soiling and under the biofilm which will be attached to the hard surfaces. For disinfection to be successful it should follow a thorough cleaning.

Different forms of soiling requires different detergents – breaking down and loosing fats and greases from different sources will often require different products. Cleaning out milk and brewery pipe lines requires detergent formulations which are different from those used in laundries.

As not all detergents have similar properties so not all disinfectants are identical. Disinfectants function in different ways. Disinfectants which are effective against certain bacteria may not be effective against other bacteria or other forms of pathogens.

Designing cleaning and disinfection programmes requires the formulation of products which tackle all of the problems and not just a limited selection.
