GENERAL INFORMATION
Hysan is a new concept in hard surface disinfectants.
This powerful Broad Spectrum Disinfectant combines the sanitising powers Stabilised chlorine dioxide with a Germicidal di Alkyl quaternary ammonium. The effect is synergistic.
Hysan is safe to use and is non toxic as well as low in sensitivity and irritation. LD 50 tests show it to be several times less toxic than similar germicides.
Hysan's ready to use formula avoids mixing errors.
Hysan is a strong oxidiser and eliminates odours by chemical oxidation.
Laboratory Tests Show Hysan Kills All Pathogens
Virucidal Activity
The Hysan formulation was tested against A2/Hong Kong 68 Influenza virus, by two AOAC methods. (1) direct dilution in contaminated growth media, and (2) spreading contaminated growth media on cover slips, then spreading sterilant over the same area with contact time of 3 mins. Two concentrations were tested: 20% solution and 3.3% solution of Hysan. Results showed no growth in all sub cultures, concluding that 20% and 3.3% solutions are virucidal.
Fungicidal Activity
T.interdigitale was tested against Hysan for contact times as low as 1 minute, using AOAC procedures and controls. Two concentrations of Hysan were tested: 20% and 3.3%. No evidence of growth was found in any subculture, resubculture or second resubculture, indicating that the Hysan formulation is fungicidal within 1 minute at concentrations as low as 3.3%.
Tuberculocidal Properties
Mycobacterium smegmatis was used in the presumptive in vitro screening test, by the official AOAC Tuberculocidal method. Hysan at 20% solution, pH 3.0 was applied in 20 samples. Results were no growth in any subculture or re-subculture,
Bactericidal Activity
1.65% and 2.475% solutions of Hysan were tested against six organisms, using AOAC procedures and controls. Results, were no growth in any test.
Test Organisms
Staphylococcus aureus * Escherichia coli * Pseudomonas aeruginosa * Salmonella choleraesuis * Clostridium perfringens * Clostridium botulinum.
Toxicity and Sensitivity
Tests as used by the Environment Protection Agency of HEW were conducted. The LD50 of the Hysan formulation at 100% strength was found to be 3,300 mg/kg, approximately 7 10 times less toxic than would be expected based on other germicidal compounds in general use. Approved methodology testing shows that Hysan is not a sensitizing material.
Skin and Eye Irritation
Data was obtained by methods in the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act Regulations (7CFR Part 362). Using the 100% concentrate skin irritation of 2.3 and an expected eye irritation resulted. The irritation disappeared completely in the six rabbits by the fourth day. Note that these tests were carried out on the concentrate, in actual use Hysan is diluted to 20%, 10% or less, further reducing the minimal toxicity of the solution.
