Disinfection of Bottle and Can Cooler Water
Product spilled by broken cans consumes large quantities of chlorine resulting in higher demand, more corrosion and problems disposing of highly chlorinated water containing high levels of chlorinated organics.
Scotmas chlorine dioxide products can be used as a direct replacement for chlorine in these systems - reducing corrosion rates, and providing a safer working environment.
Wash Water, Flumes & Canning Hydrocoolers
Water flumes are often used to remove dirt and transport fruit and vegetables around the processing plant. This system is highly efficient from the point of view of the operator, but can cause a number of bacteriological problems due to contamination being spread across the batch. In canning lines, hydrocooler water is often contaminated by burst containers, and can cause similar problems.
As well as our chlorine dioxide biocides described earlier, Scotmas now offer organically based, slow release biocides such as Aquabon™. Based on a blend of citrus extracts, Aquabon is used at low levels in flume water to destroy bacteria on produce surfaces, but will not be affected by dirt and other organic contaminants that may be present on the system. Aquabon has a long lasting residual action, and when coated on the surface of the produce will continue to provide bacterial protection. In many circumstances, this can considerably improve product shelf life and presentation. Aquabon is suitable for use in the processing of organic foods, and is environmentally friendly.
