Derek Cameron first applied Chlorine Dioxide chemistry in 1980 when remediating poorly performing agricultural and food processing units in West Africa. Building on this experience, Scotmas was established to apply the same Chlorine Dioxide chemistry to a variety of markets around the world.

Derek qualified in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Edinburgh, and worked for a number of years as a geneticist and livestock manager for agribusinesses around the world before establishing Scotmas. He is currently a Fellow of the Institute of Sales & Marketing Management, and participates in a number of industry wide initiatives to promote water treatment, hygiene and environmental care.
